Lincoln, ON – (December 4, 2025) – The Town of Lincoln is moving forward following EMG Consulting’s review of the joint fire services pilot with the Town of Grimsby. The review confirmed that while shared fire services remain a potential future opportunity, now is not the right time to advance a long-term joint model between the two communities.

As a result, the shared Fire Chief agreement will conclude, and both Lincoln and Grimsby will transition back to stand-alone Fire Departments. A detailed transition plan will be developed in the coming weeks.

“This pilot has provided valuable insights into how municipalities can collaborate,” said Mayor Sandra Easton. “While the review recommends a different path at this moment, Lincoln remains deeply committed to strengthening public safety and continuing to work with our other neighbours on a variety of shared priorities.”

“Our focus will now be on implementing the recommendations that best support Lincoln’s growing community,” said CAO Michael Kirkopoulos. “We are grateful to our partners in Grimsby for their collaboration and to our fire leadership for guiding this work with care. We extend sincere gratitude to Fire Chief Greg Hudson for his leadership throughout the pilot, and to Deputy Chief Kay and the men and women of Grimsby Fire for their professionalism and dedication.”

Lincoln Fire will continue to deliver high-quality, community-focused service. “Our team’s commitment to safety remains unwavering,” said Fire Chief Greg Hudson. “I want to thank both communities for their support as we explored this innovative model.”

Looking ahead to 2026, the Town will focus on strengthening its fire service through the review’s recommendations while maintaining strong regional partnerships.
