Niagara West Fire and Emergency Services charges fees for a number of services, as authorized by municipal by-laws.
These fees are levied to partially offset the costs for providing some services. The vast majority of these fees are related to discretionary inspection services.
False Alarm Information
There are provisions for charging for responses to false alarms. These fees are levied when a property owner fails to take adequate steps to reduce accidental or malicious false alarms. Property owners are reminded that IN NO CASE is it acceptable to delay notifying the fire services when an alarm is activated.
Preventable false alarms pose a serious risk to public safety and community welfare. When firefighters respond to false alarms, they may be delayed or prevented from responding to actual emergencies, which could endanger lives and property. Additionally, these responses place firefighters at unnecessary risk and result in significant, avoidable costs to all taxpayers of the municipality.
Town of Lincoln Fees and Charges Bylaw No. 2024-85 establishes a tariff of fees for false fire alarm calls starting at $1,000 and progressing to $5,000 per occurrence.
Non-Resident At-Fault Motor Vehicle Incident Invoicing
The Town of Lincoln Fees and Charges Bylaw sets out a Non-Resident Motor Vehicle Incident Response fee to recover the costs associated with the fire department responding to motor vehicle incidents (collisions, rescues, and fires) that occur on local roadways and providing services to non-resident motorists who do not pay municipal taxes to the Town of Lincoln. This fee helps to reduce the financial burden on local taxpayers imposed by providing these services to non-residents.
Invoices will be generated and issued to the registered owner of the vehicle. In the case of motor vehicle collisions, the owner of the at-fault vehicle as determined by the attending police service will be invoiced.
