Garden Recognition Program

The Town of Lincoln, in partnership with the Lincoln Garden Club, proudly recognizes the efforts of residents who make Lincoln a greener, more vibrant, sustainable and welcoming community. The Garden Recognition Program promotes and encourages community pride through the recognition of community member dedication and hard work which enhances the beauty of Lincoln.

All nominations and signed participation waivers must be received by Friday, June 28^th, 2024. Judging will take place between July 2^nd and July 5^th.

- All nominations and signed participation waivers must be submitted by Friday, June 28^th, 2024.
- Judging will take place between Tuesday, July 2^nd and Friday, July 5^th from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Judges will need access to the lawn of the nominated address to complete judging.
- Participants do not have to be home for judging and must not be present or interfere while judging is taking place.
- Gardens may be visited by more than one set of judges over the judging period, as well as by a photographer.
- During the judging period participants must ensure that pets are restrained and water sprinklers are turned off.
- Judging will take place rain or shine.
- A notice will be placed in your mailbox when judging and photography is completed.
- Only residential gardens may be nominated.
- Council, Staff of the Town of Lincoln and Board Members of the Lincoln Garden Club are prohibited from participating.
- Only front gardens will be judged, with as much of the side garden as is visible from the street.
- All gardens and personal property therein shall be displayed at the risk of the participant. The Town of Lincoln or its designates shall not be held liable for any loss or damage from any cause whatsoever.
- Names and addresses of participants, and any photos taken of gardens shall remain the property of the Town of Lincoln and may be published by the Town of Lincoln or Lincoln Garden Club in newsletters, on the website, for display, or via social media for promotional or educational purposes.
- The decision of the judges is FINAL.
- Garden Design - Space utilization and balance, plant diversity, pleasing combination of plant materials and effective use of colour, foliage, height, texture, four-season plant material, mulch, and appropriate use of hard goods such as walkways and sculptures
- Visual Appearance - Unique design, interesting or unusual features, quality of garden maintenance and plant health, good garden practices, structures in good repair
- Overall ‘Wow’ Factor and Creativity
- Environmental considerations – Use of drought-resistant plants, native plants, plants that fit the environment, suitable ground cover, sustainable practices, features to mitigate environmental impacts
- After your garden preparations, you will want to ensure that all goes smoothly when the judges and photographers visit your garden. Remember that judging goes ahead rain or shine. Please prepare accordingly.
- Have your garden ready for judging and photography by 8 a.m. on all judging days. Even if someone visited your garden already, another judge or photographer may visit another day. It is recommended that:
  The garden has been watered and looks fresh.
  Hose, garden equipment and general clutter are put away.
  Flowers are deadheaded.
  Dried branches, twigs and yellow leave have been discarded.
  Walkway and porch are swept and tidy.
  Garage and doors are closed.
  The grass is well maintained.
  Plants are staked or supported using unobtrusive materials.
- Check your mailbox for a notice that judging and photography have been completed.
