The Town of Lincoln has launched a Sanitary Backwater Valve Subsidy Program to help homeowners reduce the risk of basement flooding caused by sanitary sewer backups during heavy rain or rapid snowmelt. Climate change is bringing more frequent and intense storms, increasing flood risk. While the Town continues to invest in infrastructure upgrades, installing a backwater valve is an effective safeguard homeowners can take.
Homeowners with a history of sanitary basement flooding are expected to benefit most. If demand exceeds available funding, some applicants may need to wait until the following year due to budget limitations.
This program supports the Town’s climate adaptation goals and complements the Town’s Inflow and Infiltration (I/I) Reduction Program. While backwater valves do not directly eliminate I/I, inspections may identify improper connections for future correction, improving system efficiency.
