Lincoln, ON (October 20, 2022) – The Town of Lincoln is launching a Heritage Conservation District (HCD) Study of Beamsville’s King Street corridor area. The study will explore the possible heritage designation of this area under Part V of the Ontario Heritage Act.
While individual property designation is successful at preserving individual properties, the Town of Lincoln is considering a Heritage Conservation District (HCD) designation for Beamsville’s King Street corridor to protect the historic character of a defined community area.
Under Part V of the Ontario Heritage Act, HCD designation will allow Beamsville to identify and protect a cohesive collection of heritage resources and elements associated with the community’s history – even as change and development occur.
“Our community has a variety of rich, vibrant, and unique heritage destinations,” said Town of Lincoln Mayor Sandra Easton. “Identifying which of these require heritage designation is essential to protect our community history and the cultural heritage value. A Heritage Conservation District will ensure that future developments, renovations, and restorations in the boundary will complement the district's character.”
“The Town’s unique growth is setting the pace for our attentiveness to the potential of this area as a Heritage Conservation District,” said Michael Kirkopoulos, Chief Administrative Officer for the Town. “We understand our responsibility to preserve the heritage attributes, and our opportunity is to use a purposeful planning approach ahead of further community growth and transformation.”
