Statement from the Town

Lincoln, ON – (March 15, 2022) – On behalf of the Town of Lincoln Council and the entire Lincoln community, we are pleased to see the release of the Initial Business Case (IBC) confirming the feasibility of a future GO train station in Beamsville, within the Town of Lincoln.

Metrolinx completed the IBC in partnership with the Town of Lincoln, Region of Niagara, and a third-party partner for a proposed GO Station in Beamsville. The proposed station would be located on the Niagara Extension between the proposed Grimsby GO Station to the west and the existing St. Catharines GO Station to the east. Metrolinx’s Transit Oriented Communities program aims to deliver public transit infrastructure by leveraging third-party investment to connect more people and places to transit.

While the announcement does not lay out timelines or confirm the construction of a GO station, it does mark a positive step towards expanded access to GO service in Lincoln. This is excellent news for Lincoln residents and businesses.

Lincoln is a growing community, and expanded service to Lincoln will be essential to meet the needs of our residents and enhance the quality of life here in Lincoln as we work towards building a complete community.

The community benefits are many – namely, economic growth, expanded transportation options for residents and visitors, improved traffic, and the opportunity to leverage Lincoln as a premier tourism destination in Niagara, in support of the Niagara Benchlands tourism brand recently approved by Town Council.

We will continue to work closely with our partners in government and the private sector to move this vital community project from concept to reality. These partners include the Ministry of Infrastructure, Ministry of Transportation, local MPP Sam Oosterhoff, Metrolinx, and the Niagara Region.

This is an exciting opportunity for Lincoln. We look forward to collaborating on the next steps to move this important community project from concept to reality.
