Lincoln, ON – (January 22, 2026) – The Town of Lincoln continued its advocacy on behalf of the community at the 2026 Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) Conference, held in Toronto, Ontario, from January 18 to 20, 2026. The annual conference brings rural municipalities together with provincial representatives to discuss local priorities, seek economic support, and collaborate on solutions that strengthen communities across Ontario.

During the conference, Lincoln’s Delegation met with provincial representatives to discuss shared priorities related to responsible growth, environmental stewardship, and infrastructure readiness. These discussions focused on ensuring municipal growth and investment continue to align with provincial objectives while respecting key environmental and policy frameworks.

The Lincoln Delegation included Mayor Sandra Easton, Councillors Pachereva and Brunet, as well as CAO, Michael Kirkopoulos, and Director of Planning, Matt Bruder.

Key priorities discussed:

Environmental Policy Coordination & Responsible Growth

The Town of Lincoln met with representatives from the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) to discuss the importance of clear and coordinated environmental policy guidance to support responsible growth. Conversations focused on aligning municipal planning and infrastructure delivery with provincial environmental objectives, including Greenbelt and Niagara Escarpment policies, while advancing low-impact economic and tourism opportunities.

Regulatory Predictability & Inter-Agency Collaboration

The Lincoln Delegation emphasized the need for predictable and coordinated regulatory processes involving provincial ministries, conservation authorities, and municipal partners. Improved alignment and early engagement with municipalities were identified as important tools to support timely project delivery, protect environmental outcomes, and advance provincial economic and tourism priorities.

Infrastructure Readiness & Sustainable Development

Discussions also highlighted the importance of timely approvals for water and wastewater infrastructure to support housing, employment, and tourism development. Infrastructure readiness remains a critical factor in ensuring municipalities can accommodate growth in a responsible and sustainable manner.

Climate Resilience & Environmental Stewardship

The Town reinforced its commitment to environmental stewardship and climate resilience, including source water protection, climate adaptation, and sustainable site design. Lincoln continues to seek opportunities for partnerships that strengthen long-term environmental protection while supporting community growth.

Housing Delivery & Regulatory Complexity

Lincoln’s Delegation also met with representatives from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing to discuss housing construction challenges affecting municipalities across Niagara. In addition, items around clearances, construction challenges, and approvals were also raised. Conversations focused on regulatory complexity, infrastructure pressures, and the importance of clear and consistent provincial guidance to support timely housing and infrastructure delivery.

Reinforcing Commitment to Advance Municipal Priorities Through Collaboration

Throughout the conference, the Town of Lincoln reinforced the importance of continued collaboration with provincial partners to address local challenges, support growth, and advance our rural community’s priorities. Participation in ROMA remains a key opportunity for the Town to advocate on behalf of Lincoln residents and businesses, and to ensure the community’s perspectives are reflected in provincial decision-making.
