Public Service Announcement: Recycling collection changes for businesses and non-residential properties

This change follows updates to Ontario’s Blue Box Regulation, which now applies only to residential properties. As a result, industrial, commercial, institutional, and similar non-eligible properties will no longer receive recycling collection through the Region’s residential program.

Next Steps and Recycling Service Considerations for Affected Properties

As curbside recycling collection for non-residential properties comes to an end, businesses and organizations may want to consider alternative recycling arrangements to support ongoing waste diversion efforts.

Possible options include:

• Contacting private recycling service providers operating locally to arrange pickups. A list of companies in Niagara is available at Lincoln.ca and NiagaraRegion.ca for your convenience.
• Recycling materials may also be self-hauled to landfill site drop-off locations across the region if preferred.

These changes do not affect residential recycling service. Residents will continue to receive curbside recycling collection under the updated Blue Box program.

The Town of Lincoln, Downtown Bench Beamsville BIA and Lincoln Chamber of Commerce encourage local businesses and organizations to plan ahead so they can continue recycling and diverting materials from landfill, supporting environmental stewardship while complying with provincial regulations.

Businesses and non-residential properties are also reminded that recycling should not be placed at the curb as of January 1, 2026, as this may result in littering our communities and causing negative environmental impacts.
