Residents are Reminded to Change your Clocks, Change your Batteries, and Adjust your Driving

Public Service Announcement

Lincoln, ON (November 4, 2022) – Daylight saving ends at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 6, 2022.  Before you go to bed on Saturday night, the Town reminds residents to adjust clocks by turning them back an hour, which allows for an extra hour of sleep.

The fewer daylight hours mean the evening commute home has reduced visibility for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists.  Please use extra caution during the evening commute, remain alert, and be aware of your surroundings to avoid collisions.

Safety tips for motorists include:

  • Slow down, turn slowly, and look for the other road users.
  • Make sure your vehicle headlights and signal lights function correctly.
  • Obey the rules of the road, and speed limits, approaching crosswalks and intersections with caution.
  • Plan and give yourself time to get to your location; plan your route for success.

Check Your Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarms

When it’s time to change your clocks, it’s time to check your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide batteries.  Keeping your smoke alarm up to date and making sure the batteries work will ensure your family remains safe.

Tips for testing:

  • Ensure that the alarm sounds by pressing and holding the test button
  • It is essential to remove dust buildup from the sensors; use a cloth or vacuum to remove it gently.
  • Once completed, it is time to change the batteries.

Tips for replacing a battery:

  • When replacing a battery, follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Once the battery is replaced, test the alarm to ensure it is functioning.
  • Most hard-wired alarms also require a battery change as they have a battery backup in case of a power outage.
  • All alarms expire after 10 years; check the date on your alarm and replace if necessary.
