Statement from the Town of Lincoln on West Niagara Secondary School Investment

July 15, 2021

On behalf of the entire Town of Lincoln, we are pleased to welcome the Minister of Education to the community today to announce an investment from the Ontario Government in a new secondary school in west Niagara. Thank you for investing in Lincoln and in all of west Niagara. While located in Lincoln, the new secondary school will serve all of west Niagara for many years to come.

This new state-of-the-art facility will house more than 1,500 students and includes a theatre, greenhouse and athletic facilities that are unmatched anywhere in Niagara.

A special thanks to Lincoln Council for demonstrating leadership in Niagara by supporting and partnering with the District School Board of Niagara on the development of the theatre. Earlier this year, Lincoln Council endorsed the multi-year contribution from the Town to develop the theatre, which will see Lincoln commit $200,000 towards this educational and public amenity. In return the Town, through a service agreement, will get defined and specific access to recreation and cultural amenities in partnership with the DSBN, as well as a commitment to work together on the future of the Beamsville District Secondary School site. The theatre will boast seating for 750 people and will be large enough to be used for large art productions as well as rentals of the space for productions or public and corporate events.

It has truly been a partnership among many, and we would like to extend sincere thanks to DSBN staff who worked tirelessly with the Town to bring us to where we are today. Thanks again to the Ontario government – including representatives from many ministries – for making this project a priority and working closely with the Town and DSBN to address site issues quickly and efficiently.

The new secondary school and theatre will enrich the lives of not only the students, but also the community as a whole, while supporting Council priorities of a connected and vibrant community. This investment in the school as well as many other investments along this corridor will be transformational for the area, and contribute to the long-term economic prosperity and community well-being in west Niagara and beyond.
