Council Priorities map out strategic areas of focus to 2026

Lincoln, ON – (August 1, 2023) – Town of Lincoln Council, elected in late 2022, has updated its strategic plan for 2022-26. The Town’s Committee of the Whole unanimously passed its Council Priorities 2022-26: Strategic Planning for a Future-Fit Lincoln at its July 31 meeting, to be ratified by Town of Lincoln Council on August 8, 2023. The official document will be shared and communicated with the community in Fall 2023. This refresh and update of Council priorities did not include the previously approved mission, vision and values, which together with the Town’s cultural pillars was intended to cover a ten-year period.

The Council Priorities Plan acts as a roadmap regarding Council’s expectations and what will be accomplished throughout the current term of Council. Ultimately, Council’s priorities guide the investment of resources and corporate initiatives.

“Lincoln Council’s updated strategic priorities demonstrate a sign of maturity. As a Council, we have a collective sense of where we want to be and are poised to lead our community to a bright future,” said Town of Lincoln Mayor Sandra Easton. “I am pleased at the collaboration among Council members through the strategic planning process and I look forward to sharing the updated and finalized Council Priorities document with the community in the coming weeks.”

The new plan will anchor its priorities on three key areas or pillars:

  • Welcoming and Connected Community – this area focuses on community engagement and inclusivity; attracting talent; governance, business continuity and accountability; and investing in community spaces and connectivity through the Town’s transportation network.
  • Vibrant and Prosperous Community – this area focuses on business development; economic prosperity; tourism development; and innovations in agricultural excellence.
  • Responsible and Resilient Community – this area focuses on promoting a healthy and safe community; championing environmental stewardship, heritage and smart growth; sustainable financial management; promoting intergovernmental leadership and advocacy; and prioritizing balanced and diversified housing options.

"A strategic plan serves as the backbone of an organization, acting as the touchstone that drives our collective efforts towards achievement. It will guide decision-making and investment on what matters most to our community,” said the Town’s Chief Administrative Officer Michael Kirkopoulos. “This was a multi-step process that included research and examination of current trends, and a re-examination of current priorities to create an updated plan that will guide us for the next several years.”

Senior staff are actively integrating these priorities into departmental workplans to ensure full alignment with the organization's objectives. They will also provide regular updates to Council on the progress of initiatives that support this plan.
