Lincoln, ON – (July 21, 2022) – An important and highly anticipated milestone was reached today in Lincoln, as members of Town Council and staff joined partner FBH Group to break ground on the first phase of Prudhommes Development Site. This phase and groundbreaking event also kick off the commercial elements of the project which will further propel Lincoln’s thriving local economy.
“I am thrilled to be part of this much-awaited moment in Lincoln. Today, we are one step closer to creating a thriving, modern neighbourhood and to transforming our waterfront into an exciting destination within Niagara region that will leverage the Niagara Benchlands area,” said Town of Lincoln Mayor Sandra Easton. “I am so pleased at the level of community involvement in this project – the collaboration and productive, concrete feedback from community members have contributed to a better end product for this new neighbourhood and for Lincoln as a whole.”
“We are truly looking forward to seeing shovels hit the ground and for the visible work to get underway,” said Ward 2 Councillor and Chair of the Town’s Planning Committee Tony Brunet. ““Our collective vision for Prudhommes demonstrates best practices in community building and takes into account many perspectives including social, economic and environmental.”
Over the years, much collaboration has taken place between the Town, the development community, stakeholders and community members. Public consultation was at the forefront of this project through public meetings, open houses, notices to residents, information shared through the Town’s website Lincoln.ca, and most recently a dedicated Speak Up Lincoln page, the Town’s public engagement site.
“This is the first development to get underway in a project that has been years in the making,” added the Town’s Chief Administrative Officer, Michael Kirkopoulos. “The site has a long history in the community, and both residents and visitors alike who travel along the QEW through Lincoln will start to see significant changes in the next several weeks. Jobs and commercial opportunities are a key part of this development and an integral element in creating a complete community.”
Background on Prudhommes Development Site
The Prudhommes Secondary Plan provides a vision and planning framework that will guide development of a complete and sustainable community. It includes policies that set land use designations, permitted uses, and building heights. The subject lands are designated for residential, commercial, and employment, natural environment, and parks and open space uses in the Secondary Plan.
These lands, referred to as Prudhomme's Landing, are approximately 32 hectares and are municipally known as 3245, 3293, 3305, 3319, 3325, 3335, and 3339 North Service Road, generally located east of Victoria Avenue North and west of Jordan Harbour. They are located within the Prudhommes Secondary Plan (OPA 3) area, which was adopted by Town Council in April 2018 and approved with modifications in July 2018 by Niagara Region Council.
More information on the Prudhommes development site, including Secondary Plan, current and previous activity, and documents and links related to the project are available at speakuplincoln.ca/prudhommes-development.
