Lincoln, ON – (August 9, 2023) – The Town of Lincoln is thrilled to announce the implementation of an electric vehicle (EV) charging stations project, made possible with funding support of $105,000.00 from Natural Resources Canada’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP). This initiative aligns with our commitment to sustainability and implementing green infrastructure in our community.
The EV charging stations project aims to support local economic and community development through zero-emission infrastructure in our Town, while preserving and protecting surrounding ecosystems. Additionally, it aims to enhance community spaces, educate the public about zero-emission technologies, and inspire future installations. The implementation and installation of the EV chargers is expected to commence in early fall 2023.
"The introduction of EV charging stations in Lincoln represents a crucial step towards a greener and more sustainable future for our Town," said Town of Lincoln Mayor Sandra Easton. "We are proud to implement such eco-friendly initiatives, and these charging stations will serve as a testament of our commitment to environmental sustainability."
Through strategic planning and collaboration, the Town of Lincoln has identified convenient locations to install these charging stations for both residents and visitors who own EVs. The future charging station sites are outlined below:
- Jordan Village Public Parking Lot (3763 Nineteenth Street) – 9 Parking Spaces
- Municipal Administration Offices (4800 South Service Road) – 4 Parking Spaces
- Rotary Park (5020 Serena Drive) – 4 Parking Spaces
- Vineland Public Parking Lot (Victoria Ave and Tallman Dr) – 2 Parking Spaces
- Charles Daley Park (1969 North Service Road) – 2 Parking Spaces
“It is our role as a local municipality to be environmental stewards and ensure we are providing opportunities for electric vehicles across our community," said the Town’s Chief Administrative Officer Michael Kirkopoulos. "In time, electric vehicles will become commonplace on our roads, contributing to cleaner air and a healthier environment for our whole community. The operational plan for EV charging stations will be a one-year pilot, and we look forward to hearing from the community on what worked well and any potential areas for improvement."
The installation of these charging stations will enable a more convenient and efficient way to charge EVs, promoting their usage among all individuals, including visitors and residents.
“We’re making electric vehicles more affordable and charging more accessible where Canadians live, work and play,” said the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources. “Investing in more EV chargers, like the ones announced in Lincoln, Ontario and across Canada, will put more Canadians in the driver’s seat on the road to a net-zero future and help achieve our climate goals.”
