Lincoln, ON – (October 12, 2022) – The Town of Lincoln is grateful to receive funding through the Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF) and Tourism Relief Fund (TRF), delivered by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario). These investments will support three community projects to enhance outdoor public spaces in Lincoln. Funding was announced today at the St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre.

“Modern, vibrant community spaces and tourist sites attract millions of visitors to the Niagara region annually, creating jobs and generating important economic growth,” said the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario. “The investment announced will help the St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre, Plenty Canada and 32 other businesses and organizations across the Niagara region to improve public spaces and tourist experiences, benefiting visitors and local communities.”

“On behalf of Town of Lincoln Council, I would like to thank FedDev Ontario for making investments that enhance the vibrancy of community spaces,” said the Town’s Mayor Sandra Easton. “We continually strive to make Lincoln the most welcoming community for residents, newcomers and visitors alike, and this funding will contribute to expanded recreation, cultural and educational experiences for all.”

“Thanks to the help from our funding partners, we are better able to meet the growing needs of the Lincoln community and visitors, through investments to our public spaces,” said the Town’s Chief Administrative Officer Michael Kirkopoulos. “These projects have been identified as priorities through our Strategic Plan, our Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan and our Destination Tourism Strategy and Action Plan.”

The three community projects funded through today’s announcement are as follows:

  • In collaboration with the Town, Fleming Foundation and Ontariogreen, completion of the Community Butterfly Garden at Rotary Park, Beamsville, to provide users with additional naturalized, outdoor space for passive recreation while advancing green infrastructure initiatives in Lincoln; ($425,000) - speakuplincoln.ca/rotary-park
  • Support for the forthcoming completion of community courtyard at the recently opened Lincoln Museum and Cultural Centre, Jordan to include accessible parking, lighting and signage as part of the Jordan Village Improvement Project ($188,000) - lincolnmuseum.ca
  • In partnership with Plenty Canada, forthcoming park enhancements at the Jordan Hollow Indigenous Cultural Park, Jordan, to acknowledge and celebrate Indigenous connections to the land through public art installations ($180,000) - speakuplincoln.ca/jordan-hollow-park

Investments in social infrastructure and tourism are guided in Lincoln by strategic documents that support the Town’s overarching strategic plan. The Town’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan was developed in 2019 to guide decisions for a 10-year period, examining service levels in all communities across the Town and establishing priorities. The Town of Lincoln’s five-year Destination Tourism Strategy and Action Plan 2020-2025 will protect and promote Lincoln’s assets, support economic development and help make the Town of Lincoln a place to grow and a place to prosper. It lays the groundwork for making Lincoln a leading tourist destination in Ontario.

In addition to the funding the Town of Lincoln received, our community partners the Downtown Bench Beamsville BIA and the Twenty Valley Tourism Association (in partnership with the Town of Lincoln) received funding to support tourism and community infrastructure. The BIA received $33,000 for their pedestrian pathway project and the TVTA/TOL received $63,400 for its Big Benches project.

In total, the Town of Lincoln helped secure over $2.2 million in funding that is being invested in various Lincoln community projects to support tourism and community infrastructure.
