Lincoln, ON – (March 14, 2022) - Earlier today, Regional Chair Jim Bradley and Niagara’s 12 local municipal mayors, including Town of Lincoln Mayor Sandra Easton, issued a joint statement declaring the end to the State of Emergency that has been in place since April 2020.
“This is a significant milestone for the Town of Lincoln, Niagara Region and all of Ontario as we slowly and cautiously emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Town of Lincoln Mayor Easton.
March 13, 2022, also marked the second National Day of Observance for the COVID-19 pandemic. The Town of Lincoln has lowered flags to half-mast at Town Hall to honour the Lincoln and Niagara residents who have lost their lives to the virus and reflect on the challenges we have overcome and continue to confront.
“The effects of the pandemic are far-reaching, and we need look no further than our backyards to witness how this event has changed the world and our own lives,” added Mayor Easton. “Our hearts go out to the families who have lost loved ones to COVID-19. Once again, we thank our healthcare workers and everyone else on the front lines for their dedication to Lincoln and acknowledge the entire community for your patience, resilience and care for one another during one of the greatest challenges of our time.”
“We urge everyone to continue to be vigilant, with public restrictions easing and the virus still present in our community,” said the Town’s Chief Administrative Officer, Michael Kirkopoulos. “If you have not already, please consider getting your vaccine or booster dose to keep yourself and your community safe and help reduce the spread of COVID-19.”
The Town is also planning to return to in-person meetings of Council, Committee of the Whole and Advisory committees in a hybrid format, with a tentative return date of early May 2022. To help improve the experience for all participants in meetings, audio-visual upgrades to the Town of Lincoln Council Chambers have been underway while meetings have taken place virtually over the last two years.
“We are preparing to engage community members in person once again, and our move to a hybrid format for meetings demonstrates our commitment to an open and transparent government,” added the Town’s Chief Administrative Officer, Michael Kirkopoulos.
The Town of Lincoln lifted proof of vaccination requirements in its facilities as of March 1, in alignment with the provincial government easing additional measures on that date. Other changes that came into effect on March 1 included lifting capacity limits in indoor settings, as per provincial regulation.
The Town will continue to monitor key public health indicators and direction from the Province and Niagara Region Public Health as we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, especially regarding a return to in-person gatherings, events, and meetings. We will continue to support pandemic recovery efforts throughout 2022 and beyond, to help offset the ongoing impacts of COVID-19.
