Media Release - 50 Faces of Lincoln to Celebrate Notable Contributions to Community Life
Lincoln, ON - (Oct. 22, 2020) – To celebrate Lincoln’s 50th anniversary year, Mayor Sandra Easton and Members of Council will recognize 50 individuals who have made notable contributions to the community through the 50 Faces of Lincoln community recognition initiative. Recognition will include a public-facing mural installation featuring all fifty recipients.
Recipients were selected by Members of Council with a focus on recognizing individuals from each of the four Wards. Recipients include representation from youth, older adults, business community, volunteers, sport & recreation, arts, culture & heritage, public service, community leaders, agriculture and education.
“Lincoln’s 50th anniversary year represents a significant opportunity to celebrate the community’s rich past and bright future” said Mayor Sandra Easton. “As a broad representation of the entire Lincoln community, the images of the 50 faces stand as examples of how all the recipients contribute as individuals, in groups of service providers, as creators of local images and of examples of support and community belonging over the past 50 years. As a Council we are incredibly grateful for the commitment they have dedicated to being caring stewards of our Town”.
Due to COVID-19 public health protocols and current provincial gathering restrictions, five separate and invite-only celebratory ceremonies will be held during the months of October and November to recognize recipients.
The unique mural installation will be located along the walking track concourse in the upper level of the Fleming Centre (5020 Serena Dr., Beamsville) and features a photograph of each individual, accompanied by digital access to a brief biography which showcases the contribution they have made to the community.
“The preservation of Lincoln’s rich history and the people who have shaped our community is a highly valued and ongoing effort. It is one of the most unique dimensions of the Town’s culture” said Mike Kirkopoulos, Lincoln’s Chief Administrative Officer. “Celebrating community culture and the important contributions made by these individuals, helps to engage and connect citizens, increase diversity and vitality and express a shared sense of community pride.”
Members of the public are encouraged to visit the Fleming Centre to view the 50 Faces of Lincoln mural installation starting Monday, October 26, 2020. To read more about this Council initiative and for a complete listing of recipients with their biographies, please visit lincoln.ca/50faces.
