Rotary Club of Lincoln Commits $100,000 towards New Park Development

Rotary Park in Beamsville is anticipated to be completed in 2021

Lincoln, ON - (Oct 9, 2020) - At the Special Council Meeting held virtually on Oct. 5, 2020, the Rotary Club of Lincoln committed financial support to the Town of Lincoln in the amount of $100,000 towards the development of Rotary Park in Beamsville. The initial $10,000 installment was made to Council by Rotary Club Past President, Sue Foster.

The Rotary Club of Lincoln has had a vested interest in assisting the Town with developing community spaces for all ages, abilities and interests. For several years, Lincoln Rotarians have been in regular contact with Town staff to discuss the Club’s interest in partnering on a significant community project. Funded over a 10-year term, the $100,000 investment will be equally applied specifically to the skatepark and children’s play equipment elements that will be featured in the park.

“The Council of the Town of Lincoln wishes to thank the Rotary Club of Lincoln for their generous donation of $100,000 towards the development of this park project” says Mayor Sandra Easton. “This donation will assist with improving access for children and youth to participate and ensure that that park is appropriately outfitted with amenities for people of all ages, abilities and interests”. Mayor Easton noted that “the Rotary Club of Lincoln has set a high standard in which community projects they choose to become involved with we as a Council are very pleased they have decided to be a partner with us in the development of Rotary Park.”

Parks around the world have been named in the likeness of Rotary Clubs, including locally in Hamilton, Grimsby, St. Catharines and most recently in Welland. Rotarians have a longstanding history of being steadfast stewards of spaces they are connected to through ongoing development and enhancement projects, programming and community outreach and involvement.

“We are very grateful for the contribution the Rotary Club of Lincoln has made to this project,” said Mike Kirkopoulos, Lincoln’s Chief Administrative Officer. “The funds have allowed us to add much-needed elements to the park, including support towards the new skateboarding facilities. This partnership is an example of how well our community comes together to create beautiful and age-friendly spaces for all to enjoy and benefit from.”

Rotary clubs the world over have a tradition of establishing public parks for the communities they serve. These are enduring legacy projects that serve everyone equally in the community for years to come. Upon completion, the new 3.66 acre Rotary Park in Lincoln will include both active and passive park elements including:

  • Action sports amenities – concrete skatepark and asphalt pumptrack
  • Junior and senior play equipment
  • Outdoor fitness equipment
  • Pathways and a walking loop
  • Butterfly garden with accompanying signage and outdoor learning classroom
  • Open lawn area for free play
  • Shaded rest areas, benches, installation of trees, plantings and park signage
  • Additional parking to support park use

“The Rotary Club of Lincoln membership are very proud that we are able to contribute to this park in the downtown core of our community”, says Sue Foster, Past President. “This donation would not have been possible without the support of Lincoln businesses and the community. By supporting various Rotary Club fundraisers with sponsorship, participation and volunteerism, the community benefits from these signature projects on an ongoing basis” says Foster.

Rotary Park is located north of the Fleming Memorial Centre in Beamsville. Phase one of the park project included the completion of the concrete skateboard park and asphalt pumptrack. Phase two development and completion of the entire park is anticipated in 2021. To follow the progress of this community project please visit lincoln.ca.
