Heat Alert Issued for Niagara region Monday, July 5 and Tuesday, July 6
Environment Canada has issued a High Heat Alert for Niagara Region, with hot and humid conditions forecasted for Monday July 5, 2021 through Tuesday July 6, 2021.
Maximum daytime temperatures from 31 to 34 degrees Celsius are expected with humidex values near 40.
Environment Canada issues heat alerts when:
- The humidex is 40°C or higher for two consecutive days
- Daily temperatures are expected to reach 31°C or higher and overnight temperatures are at least 20°C or higher, for two consecutive days
Public Health identifies those at risk and precautions to stay healthy during extreme heat.
Cooling Centre
The Fleming Centre (5020 Serena Dr, Beamsville) is the Town's Designated Cooling Centre:
- Hours 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Washrooms available on site
- Admission is free
Lincoln residents can access other facilities across the community to stay cool, including:
- Outdoor Pools - Currently, Jordan Pool and Allan F. Gretsinger outdoor pools are currently open for the season. These facilities offer free swims when a High Heat Alert has been activated.
- Splash Pads - open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Hilary Bald Park (Garden Gate Terrace, Beamsville), Jordan Lions Park (2793 4th Avenue, Jordan) and Angelina Prokich Park (5080 St. George’s Drive)
- Lincoln Public Library - Our two branch libraries are additional spaces in Lincoln where you can get relief from the heat. Lincoln Public Library re-opened on Monday, July 5 with limited capacity.
