Notice of Regional Public Information Centre: King Street Rehabilitation Schedule ‘B’ Municipal Class Environmental Assessment

Type(s)
Public Notice

Niagara Region has started a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment for King Street (Regional Road 81) in Lincoln. The study aims to assess alternatives for active transportation and traffic safety improvements. The study will also develop options to address the failing retaining wall along the corridor. The project extends from Nineteenth Street to Twenty Third Street between Jordan and Vineland. It extends approximately two kilometres in length.

The project is a Schedule "B" project under the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment. This is approved under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act.

The process includes:

  • Consultation with agencies, stakeholders, Indigenous communities and the public
  • An evaluation of alternative solutions to address the problem
  • An assessment of potential environmental impacts
  • Finding ways to reduce or prevent any possible negative effects

A project file report will be prepared for public review at the end of the study for a 30-day public review period. A notice of completion will be issued at that stage.

Niagara Region is hosting the second of two Public Information Centres for this study. Public engagement is a key part of the process. We encourage the public, agencies, Indigenous communities and other interested persons to take part. You can participate by reviewing information, sharing comments and attending consultation opportunities.

PIC No.2 will present the evaluation and preferred alternative design solution. The PIC will be held in person in a ‘drop-in’ format with materials about the study displayed and members of the study team on hand to answer questions. Alternative planning solutions and draft evaluation criteria were presented at the first PIC.
