TAKE NOTICE that the Town Clerk of the Corporation of the Town of Lincoln intends to designate the following real property, including the lands and building, as a property of cultural heritage value or interest, pursuant to the provisions of the Ontario Heritage Act, R.S.O. 1990, Chapter O.18, Part IV, Section 29.

2818 Prince William Street, Plan 41A, Lot 125 and Part of Martha Street. Concession 2, Part Lot 17, in the Town of Lincoln

Description of Property

2818 Prince William Street is the former Jordan Train Station, a wooden railway building now used as a residence. Situated in the centre of Jordan Station in the Town of Lincoln, the structure originally functioned as a key stop on the Grand Trunk Railway line, later part of Canadian National Railway linking Hamilton, St. Catharines, and Niagara Falls.

Historical Value

The station holds significant historical value for its association with the growth of regional railways and their impact on rural Ontario communities. As a hub for passengers, freight, and mail, it played a central role in Jordan Station’s transformation into a thriving agricultural shipping centre. The railway allowed local fruit and produce growers to reach wider markets, stimulating both population and economic growth. The station remains an important physical reminder of how rail transportation shaped small communities across Niagara and Ontario.

Architectural Value

Architecturally, the station is a well-preserved example of early 20th-century small-town railway design. Built in 1913, it reflects a blend of Queen Anne Revival and Stick Style influences. Character-defining elements include its elongated rectangular form with a projecting station-master bay, broad hipped roof with gabled dormers featuring spoked-wheel motifs, wide eaves with decorative brackets, and symmetrical tall narrow windows. Original board-and-batten siding painted in historic Grand Trunk red with cream trim, along with the prominent JORDAN signage, contribute to its authenticity. These features showcase the craftsmanship and vernacular railway architecture typical of the era.

Contextual Value

Contextually, the station is a recognizable landmark that reinforces the heritage character of Jordan Station. Its siting near the street, distinctive roofline, historic colour palette, and surviving semaphore signals contribute to the village’s historic streetscape. Surrounded by other heritage properties, the station continues to evoke the community’s railway origins and its early settlement pattern.
