Lincoln, ON – (September 8, 2025) – The Town of Lincoln has officially passed a By-law restricting heavy vehicle traffic on Thirty Road and Mountainview Road. The By-law prohibits trucks with a registered gross weight over 15,000 kg from using these routes, ensuring greater safety for residents, road users, and the surrounding environment.

The decision follows extensive monitoring, safety assessments, and collaboration with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) and the Town of Grimsby. The by-law responds to community concerns about safety on these roads, which feature steep grades, sharp curves, and are not designed for heavy truck traffic.

The Town has coordinated with the Town of Grimsby to install signage and has provided advance notice to residents and the trucking community through social media, Municipal 511 updates, and direct communications. Local deliveries, including service vehicles accessing homes, businesses, farms, and wineries along Thirty Road and Mountainview Road, will continue to have access. These restrictions are focused only on through traffic using these roads as a bypass. Exemptions are also in place for emergency vehicles, municipal vehicles, school buses, and farm vehicles.

“Community safety is at the heart of this decision. Thirty Road and Mountainview Road were never intended to bear the stress of heavy truck traffic, and this by-law ensures that these roads remain safe for residents, cyclists, and visitors alike. By working in partnership with Grimsby and the Niagara Regional Police, we are putting safety first and protecting the integrity of our infrastructure.”
Sandra Easton, Mayor, Town of Lincoln

“This by-law is a proactive measure that reflects Council’s strategic priority of building a responsible and resilient community. While we recognize the importance of goods movement across our region, it must be done on safe and appropriate routes. These restrictions balance the needs of the economy with the safety of our community and long-term sustainability of our local roads.”
Michael Kirkopoulos, Chief Administrative Officer

“The Niagara Regional Police Service is committed to supporting the Town of Lincoln in ensuring compliance with this new by-law. Our officers will have a visible presence in the area to reinforce these restrictions and provide reassurance to residents. This partnership is an important step in maintaining safe roads for everyone.”
