Lincoln, ON – (October 2, 2023) – The Town of Lincoln is excited to announce the successful completion of the rubberized playground project, a significant initiative aimed at making Lincoln's parks more accessible for all residents, including children and youth of varying abilities.
Outdoor community play spaces are crucial for providing flexible and unstructured play opportunities for Lincoln's young population. Recognizing the importance of inclusivity, the Town of Lincoln embarked on a two-year project to resurface all 15 mulch play spaces in 12 town parks with poured-in-place rubber. The project, which began construction in Spring 2022, was completed in Fall 2023.
The rubberized surfaces not only enhance safety but also enable children and youth of diverse abilities to participate and socialize with their peers through play. Additionally, the Ashby Drive Park basketball court was revitalized into a multi-use court, featuring fencing, ball hockey nets, and seating, further expanding recreational opportunities in the community.
The Town of Lincoln secured $665,000.00 in grant funding for the project from the provincial and federal governments, along with a local contribution of $242,000.00 from the Town. This funding was made possible through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program: Community Culture and Recreation - Rehabilitation and Renovation Grant.
"The Town of Lincoln expresses gratitude for the investments made by the Government of Ontario and the Government of Canada in Lincoln playgrounds,” said Town of Lincoln Mayor Sandra Easton. “Investing in social infrastructure not only builds strong and dynamic communities but also supports economic growth, celebrates diversity, and promotes community health and well-being.”
