Durham Road Reconstruction Project

Project Information

• Project Background

  Durham Road has been identified as a critical corridor on the Town's Alternate Truck Route network in Beamsville and is adjacent to the new West Niagara Secondary School on King Street near the Grimsby border. These new conditions, in combination with the existing land-uses on Durham Road, require the roadway to be reconstructed to a standard that can accommodate increased vehicular and heavy truck traffic.

• Project Description

  This project involves reconstructing Durham Road from King Street to South Service Road.

  The Town's Transportation Master Plan (TMP) assessed short-term solutions to find viable routes to redirect truck traffic from the downtown area of Beamsville, recommending that Durham Road become an alternate truck route.

• Proposed Construction Improvements

  • Complete road reconstruction on Durham Road between King Street and the South Service Road to a standard suitable for heavy truck traffic.
  • Intersection improvements at King Street and South Service Road to improve truck turning movements.
  • Active Transportation review and coordination at the King Street intersection.
  • Roadway illumination.
  • Drainage and stormwater improvements, including ditches, etc.
  • CNR at-grade crossing improvements as required.
  • Landscaping and tree planting improvements.
  • Utility relocations as necessary.
