SPORT, RECREATION AND CULTURE DEPARTMENT

The role of the Sport, Recreation and Culture Department is to enhance the quality of life for residents of Lincoln by facilitating the development of recreation, leisure, and cultural opportunities, services and facilities that help fulfill the needs of individuals, families, and community groups.

COMMUNITY GUIDE 

The Community Guide is published annually in March.  It contains information on programs, events and activities taking place within the Town of Lincoln.

The role of the department is accomplished in the following ways:

Community Development:  The department provides advice, assistance, support and guidance to volunteer groups and facilitate the development of new groups to meet changing community needs.
Assistance is available to community groups in areas such as facilitating workshops on board development, strategic planning, and fundraising, getting started as a volunteer group and reorganization of groups already in existence. Organizations are welcome to contact the department if they require assistance.

Children and Youth Programs and Services:  This is the sixteenth year that summer camp programs have been offered to children aged three to twelve. This is the ninth year that the department will be offering water safety lessons at the Allan F. Gretsinger Community Pool and the fourth year operating the Jordan Lions Pool. A major fundraising campaign is undertaken annually to offset costs of these programs.

Community Events: The department is involved in organizing special community events including Volunteer Recognition, New Year’s Levee, and Canada Day Celebration and is available as a resource to groups planning their own special events.

Community Engagement: The Town of Lincoln’s Sport, Recreation and Culture Department encourages participation through the Lincoln in Bloom – Clean up Community Initiatives. These events are committed to fostering civic pride / environmental responsibility & beautification through community participation.

Public Relations: The department is available to speak to local groups, schools, church groups, service clubs, and other volunteer associations as requested on a variety of topics according to need. This annual Town of Lincoln Community Guide is a major project of the department.

Facilities Services: Includes Town owned buildings, arenas, parks and cemeteries.

Park & Trail Development: The Sport, Recreation and Culture Department works with other Town departments to identify and meet the needs of the community in the area of parks and trail development.

Town Grants: The department administers the Municipal Grants and the Whipple Trust Fund.

Jordan Historical Museum: The department is responsible for the operations of the Museum.

Field and Facility Rentals: The Town rents out the following facilities for public use: Fleming Memorial Arena, Jordan Arena,  Lincoln Centre (on Central Ave), Charles Daley Park and books all ice time and playing fields.
