New Property Standards By-law

At its meeting of May 4, 2016, the Council of the Town of Lincoln enacted a new property standards by-law setting standards for the maintenance and occupancy of properties within the Town.  Adoption of the new by-law follows extensive consideration by Council that commenced in June of 2015 and included the holding of a public information session and the conduct of a formal public hearing in February of 2016.

The standards established by the by-law, under the authority of the Province of Ontario’s Building Code Act, have been put in place to protect the health and safety of residents as well as the general public.  The new by-law replaces a previous 2003 property standards by-law and is intended to address a wide variety of situations including:

  • safety and structural problems with buildings,
  • vital services such as working plumbing, heating and electrical services,
  • interior and exterior property maintenance;
  • vacant lands and buildings.
