Heritage Designation

HERITAGE DESIGNATION

The Town of Lincoln Municipal Heritage Committee acts as a liason between Town Council and property owners wishing to have their properties designated under the Ontario Heritage Act.   The Committee undertakes various research efforts to evaluate properties for heritage designation and, if deemed appropriate, make recommendations to Council for final approval and designation.  The following guidelines are considered by the Municipal Heritage Committee in their review of potential properties:

  • Architectural Value: Significant architectural feature(s) to distinguish the property.
  • Historical Value: Relevance of the property in the development of Lincoln; the occurrence of an important event or occupancy by a significant former resident.
  • Cultural Value: Contributes to a specific streetscape or vista; adds merit to the heritage of the community and surrounding area.

Heritage designation implies that the condition of original structure(s) on a property will be respected.  If circumstances change, the designation can be reconsidered.
