Emergency Preparedness Week

This year, Emergency Preparedness Week is May 2-6, 2016.

Emergency Preparedness Week is a national awareness initiative that has taken place annually since 1996. It is a collaborative event undertaken by provincial and territorial emergency management organizations supporting activities at the local level, in concert with Public Safety Canada and partners. Emergency Preparedness Week encourages Canadians to take three simple steps to become better prepared to face a range of emergencies:

• Know the risks
• Make a plan
• Get an emergency kit

Emergencies can strike at ANY time. Everyone should be prepared to be self-sufficient for at least 72 hours in the event of an emergency.

Emergency Preparedness is everyone’s responsibility. Some individuals may not have the support or capacity to deal with emergencies. Reach out to neighbours, family and friends who may be vulnerable or unable to support themselves during an emergency.
